Home Ownership

Title Search

Wherever you live, if you're planning to buy a property, you should do a title search on it first. This involves examining its records to confirm that the seller is the legal owner of the property and that there are no liens or claims against the property. If you buy the property and the liens have not been paid by the previous owner, you will have to pay them. It is always a good idea to ask a solicitor to confirm good title of a property in England and to take care of the necessary registrations following completion, as failure to register the purchase would result in the legal title to the property not passing to the purchaser. This recommendation is especially critical in countries with less well-established real estate markets.
