Education

A-Levels

In many countries, taking a major nationwide exam or exams is often a precursor to going to university. In the U.K., the exams usually required for university entry are called A-levels (in Germany, the Abitur exam). Those students who do well may qualify for merit-based scholarships and access to the best educational institutions. For this reason, many parents consider it worthwhile to invest in test preparation classes for their children. India also has public exams, which vary according to location and the curriculum followed at the individual schools. Most students in India sit for either state board exams, the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) exams or the Indian School Certificate (ISC) exams.
